A Little More Practice

Now that I have my new hoop, I can actually waist hoop! It’s so discouraging when you can’t keep it up for more than 2 rotations before it falls.

This one is heavier thanks to the tape, and the diameter is about 2″ bigger than my DIY hoop.

Anyways, I worked on waist hooping for about 20 minutes. Here is a short video just to show the improvement from the other hoop.

Weight, size, and quality really do make a difference.

I also worked on my isolations some more. I was so excited to do them with a pretty hoop, but didn’t account for the extra weight. I’m so happy I can waist hoop now, but I’m a little sad it took away from the isolations. I’ll just have to practice them more. Here’s a short video of it:

It’s pretty obvious in the video that the hoop was weighing my arm down LOL.

In the next video, I was trying to leg/ankle hoop. I clearly have a long way to go with it, but there is a noticeable difference in just 4 tries!

I’m excited to practice some more and hopefully make my waist hooping a little smoother!

My First “Real” Hoop!

IT’S HEREEEEE!!!!

This picture doesn’t even do it justice! The colors are so vibrant and beautiful.

It also glows in the dark! The instructions say it requires 2 hours of sunlight for a 10 hour glow. I couldn’t wait 2 hours, so I decided to test it without much light exposure. Here are the results:

I can’t even express how happy this makes me! Now I just need a blacklight and all the colors will pop! Here is what it looks like under a blacklight (photo from HoopMamas Etsy Page):

I hooped with it as soon as I got it out of the package, and I was able to keep it up for about 2 minutes! As you saw in my last post, that is a HUGE deal. LOL!

I’ll post a video soon of me using it!

xoxo

First Time Hooping!

I have zero patience when I’m excited about something. Turns out, hooping is one of those things.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I ordered my first custom made hoop. It should be here in 3-4 days, but all I can think about is hooping!
Since I have my DIY hoop laying around, I decided I might as well use it to practice and at least try to gain some muscle memory, even though it has no tape and is super slippery.
I did a little waist hooping, but mainly focused on off the body tricks.

I filmed the whole 45 minute practice and figured I would post a couple things because after all, this blog is supposed to document my journey into hooping.

In the video I included my most successful moment waist hooping (I know, it’s sad I call that successful LOL), and my isolations (I’m actually kind of proud of those!).

Here’s the video!

I CANT WAIT FOR MY GOOD HOOP TO GET HERE!!!!!!!! 🙂

Why I Chose Hooping

As a stay at home mom & full-time college student, going to a gym is not realistic for me. Between the thought of getting myself ready, getting my daughter ready, then getting to the gym, I have no motivation at all (fine… I’m lazy). On top of that, she would be fussy the whole time and it would be nearly impossible to focus.

However, I’m tired of feeling horrible everyday. I don’t eat good and I’m not active enough. I gained 50 pounds during my pregnancy and have only gained more weight in the past year since my daughter was born.

I have been looking for a fun way to workout that I can do in my living room. Let’s face it, workout videos are boring. Who wants to do jumping jacks, crunches, sit-ups, and burpees? Not me!

Then I discovered hooping.

Technically, I discovered this about 6 months ago. I made a DIY hula hoop with 3/4″ 100psi tubing and a 37″ OD.

My DIY hoop

I was so excited to start! I literally couldn’t keep the hoop up for two full rotations. I hate to admit it, but I gave up. I put my hoop in the corner of my living room and haven’t touched it since.

Fast forward to 3 days ago, and I don’t even want to know how much weight I’ve gained. If only I had stuck to hooping… I would probably be close to my body goals by now. So I decided that I wouldn’t give up this time.

After extensive amounts of research, I found one of my problems. I never put any grip tape on my hoop. I blame my lack of research on hooping.

So here I am again. I did my research and decided my best option would be to order a quality hoop. I shopped on nearly 20 websites and eventually landed on HoopMamas Etsy page. I’m still waiting for it to get here, but it shipped today & I’m super excited!!!! It should be here any day! **I am NOT being paid to advertise for them**

The hoop I ordered from HoopMamas Etsy page. I ordered it 40″, 100psi, and 3/4″ tubing

I have been working on off body hooping with my other one while I impatiently wait. Haha!

Anyway, back to the reason I chose hooping. Initially I want to lose some of this baby weight. There is so much more to it than that though. I have been watching hooping videos on YouTube and it has almost become an addiction. Some of the woman (and men) out there are such an inspiration to me. Their movements look so effortless and beautiful. They have huge smiles on their faces & I can see that they are truly happy in the moment. That is what I want.

Hula hooping brings out a person’s inner peace, inner child, and positivity.

I want that for myself more than I want anything else. Weight loss will just be the cherry on top 🙂

I can’t wait to document this journey for myself and anyone else that is interested.

I’m excited to be a part of the hooping community now!

I’ll leave you with a picture of me and my beautiful daughter, Adalynn. I’m sure you will be seeing more of her 😉
